FireMed Program
Are You Protected?
Accidents can happen at any time, or any place. The St. Paul Fire Department offers its patrons two membership options to provide financial assistance when confronted with the need for immediate ambulatory medical care.
No one can predict when a medical emergency will occur. And if an emergency does happen, the last thing you would want – or need – is a costly ambulance bill. A lifesaving ambulance transport now averages $2,000 or more. A Medicare patient is responsible for their annual part B deductible plus 20% of what Medicare allows for payment of the ambulance transport. Private health insurance rarely covers the full amount due to much higher deductibles and co-payments. Leaving you to pay the difference. Some claims are denied entirely.
For just $60 a year, FireMed covers you and your entire household from out-of-pocket costs for emergency and physician ordered, medically necessary non-emergency ambulance services, no matter how many times you use it. You’re covered at home and throughout most of Oregon. Plus, FireMed will take care of all ambulance insurance claims and billings. That means no worries, no hassles, and no bills for you.
Residents of the St Paul Fire District’s ambulance service area are eligible to join FireMed by properly completing an enrollment application available from the District and by paying the appropriate annual membership fee. FireMed household membership includes all persons who are permanent residents of the same single family occupancy, non-commercial residence, within the District’s 35-square-mile ambulance service area, living together as part of a family unit, including domestic partners, but not to include mere roomers or boarders. Membership benefits are also extended to include household members living in substitute care (e.g. nursing homes) in the District’s ambulance service area.
